Maris Bustamante (born November 10, 1949) is an Mexican interdisciplinary artist who presented 21 solo exhibitions and over 400 group shows in Mexico and internationally. She has imagined, written, produced and performed more than 250 performances, installations, environments and two big “contraespectáculos” (against the traditional spectacle). She has presented performance art pieces through commercial TV, seen by millions which she called social performances involving a public distant from formal arts. She also designs environments, costumes and objects for theatre, TV, cinema. She studied at Escuela Nacional de Pintura Y Escultura "La Esmeralda", one of the two top art schools in Mexico, from 1968 to 1973.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.banffcentre.ca/faculty/faculty-member/2007/maris-bustamante/ )〕 Her preferred conceptual platform was the one she began to explore in the 1970s when she started producing artistic concepts and objects, participating in the Groups Movement in México City. She worked with the group NO GRUPO since its foundation in 1979 until its disappearance 6 years later. She began to talk about the searching of non traditional narratives since her first happening in 1971.〔〔 In 1983, with Mónica Mayer, she founded the first feminist art collective in Mexico, Polvo de Gallina Negra (Black Hen Powder).
